견진 교리반을 맡아주시는 스티브 학사님께서 내일(10/4, 목) 저녁 6시 40분 St. Patrick Seminary에서 시종직(Acolyte)을 받게 됩니다. 시간이 허락되는 분들께서는 신학교로 와서 직분이 수여되는 미사에 참석해보시는 것도 뜻깊을 거라 생각됩니다. 많이 축하해주시고 기도해주십시오.

다들 아시겠지만, 참고로....
우리가 사용하는 학(學) 사(司) 님이라는 용어는, 사제(司祭) 가 되기위해 공부하고 있는 사람이라는 뜻입니다. 학사,석사,박사라고 할 때의 학사(學士)가 아닌거죠.

"독서직": 요즘은 모든 신자들에게도 허용되지만 옛날에는 독서직을 받은 자라야만 제단에 올라가서 성경을 낭독할 수 있었다. 거룩한 미사에 참례하여 제단에 올라가 성서를 낭독한다는 것은 신자들 앞에 여간 영예로운 일이 아닐 수 없다. 신학교에서 행하는 모든 예식의 독서는 독서직을 받은 학사님들이 전담한다.

"시종직": 시종직을 받은 사람만이 모든 예식에 시종을 들 수가 있다. 미사는 주례 사제가 단독으로 봉헌하지만 그러나 옆에서 시종드는 시종자가 협력해야 완전하게 지낼 수 있다. 제물도 날라다 주어야하고, 방울도 쳐야하고, 응답도 받아서 해야 한다. 요즈음이니까 교우들도 너나 할 것 없이 시종을 들지만, 얼마 전 까지만 해도 어림도 없었다. 미사의 정숙함을 위하여 시종 드는 자들도 제복을 입어야 한다.

An acolyte is a cleric promoted to the fourth and highest minor order in the Latin Church, ranking next to a subdeacon. The chief offices of an acolyte are to light the candles on the altar, to carry them in procession, and during the solemn singing of the Gospel; to prepare wine and water for the sacrifice of the Mass; and to assist the sacred ministers at the Mass, and other public services of the Church. In the ordination of an acolyte the bishop presents him with a candle, extinguished, and an empty cruet, using appropriate words expressive of these duties. Altar boys are often designated as acolytes and perform the duties of such. The duties of the acolyte in Catholic liturgical services are fully described in the manuals of liturgy.
